Join us for lunch at Seasons 52 on October 4th, for our First Wednesday Lunch with the League.
The League is pleased to announce that Juanita Powell-Williams, First Vice-President of James Weldon Johnson Branch of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) will be the speaker for our October luncheon.
Ms. Powell-Williams will discuss ASALH's mission to educate the citizenry of Duval County about the accomplishments of African Americans, including the creation of Freedom Schools in Jacksonville. Freedom Schools are being formed in response to the lack of truthful teaching of African American history in Florida and are modeled after schools of the same name established in Mississippi in 1964 to teach Black History, leadership skills, and the tenets of the civil rights movement.
Attorney Juanita Powell-Williams grew up in Jacksonville. She graduated from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University and received her law degree from Jacksonville's First Coast Law School. Founder of the Powell-Williams Law Firm, P.A., Ms.Powell-Williams is a member of the Florida Bar Association, the National Bar Association, Virgil Hawkins Bar Association and a present member and past president of the D.W. Perkins Bar Association.
