News & Events

Wednesday Lunch with the League
Our Board is working hard on getting our monthly Wednesday Lunch with the League up and running. Unfortunately, Seasons 52 raised our price so we are working on an alternative location in order to ensure that we can continue to offer our monthly lunch at $35.

For now we will do a virtual lunch on Wednesday, September 2 at noon.  The topic will be "Constitutional Crisis" and will focus on why the League of Women Voters of the United States declared a Constitutional Crisis in 2025 and how this continues to be true.

Movies that Matter – September
Are you feeling down about the state of our politics? Want to be inspired by the stories of people who are pushing back? Come watch our next movie: "People vs. Politics", a 2026 documentary that profiles grassroots leaders around the country working to reform the U.S. election system. We can be inspired together.

The League knows that we can’t all be active like the people in this movie. But we CAN educate ourselves, contact our legislators, and vote. Democracy needs us to participate.

We have two dates:
Saturday, 9/5/26 at 1:00 pm
Orange Park (right off the I-295 exit for US17) The address will be provided to those who register.

Thursday, 9/24/26 at 5:30 pm
Anastasia Island Branch Library, 124 Seagrove Main Street
This is our first Movies That Matter in St Augustine!

Snacks will be provided at both events. If you would like to schedule this movie or another in your home or meeting place, please email lwvjfc.membership@gmail.com.

Voter Registration News
On August 8th, in coordination of the UNITE and RISE DAY of ACTION, we sent out over 400 postcards to Nassau County residents encouraging them to vote in the primary election. Nassau County had the highest turnout in our area at 30.3%. Thank you Erika Kristo for arranging this.

We are back on campus! We tabled with The Student Civic Engagement students twice in August and from the accounts of the members who worked the events they were able to assist many students. Thank you Susan Lloyd, Rhona DiCamillo and Erika Kristo. We will be back in September on the 15th and 30th. We will be tabling at FSCJ North Campus on September 2nd and Keiser University on September 17th.

St. Stephen's AME church hosted a panel of experts to talk about voting. The LWVFC was represented by Rhona. The attendees were very engaged and interested in the Vote 411 cards.

The turnout for the primary elections was very disappointing. Hopefully, the midterms will be better. "Someone struggled for your right to vote. Use it."-Susan B. Anthony
