Our guest speaker's biography:
Suzanne Sapp serves as Senior Campaign Organizer for the Sierra Club's Beyond Coal Campaign, leading national organizing, coalition, and regulatory efforts to move communities away from coal and toward clean energy. Over more than twenty years, she has led multi-state and national campaigns across labor, electoral, and issue-based work — managing complex operations, building strong teams, and guiding strategy in high-pressure environments. She also served in senior regional leadership roles within the Obama organizing network, helping build large-scale field programs across multiple states.
A Jacksonville native, Suzanne's work is rooted in the community that shaped her. She began her career as a trauma nurse manager, an experience that instilled the steady, practical leadership style she carries into her work today. Outside of her formal roles, she spends much of her time mentoring emerging leaders and raising her 10-year-old son, Noah, in the Jacksonville community that raised her. Being his mother keeps her grounded in the everyday stakes of the work — clean air, strong schools, and a future worth inheriting.
She holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Industrial–Organizational Psychology from New York University, along with degrees in Social Psychology and Nursing, bringing together academic training, frontline experience, and deep local roots in everything she does.
